chris: What should I feed my 7-week-old Pit Bull to help him gain weight?
I have a 7-week old blue pitbull puppy and he looks a little thin. I can see his hip bones and rib bones. I didn't want to get him at such a young age but the mother was starting to reject them. He is in the process of being dewormed and he is very playful and active and acts like he is very healthy.
Can I feed him simple things like chicken? And what's the best brand of puppy food that I can give him to help him gain some extra weight?

You know I for one get tired of the excuse that a mother dog is rejecting a 7-week old pup. I have been breeding dogs for over 30 years. And never had a dog reject a pup.
So-called breeders say this because they don't want the added extra cost of worming and shots. A puppy should be with its littermates to till they are at least 10 weeks, and 12 is better. After 6-7 weeks, they should be away from mom but still with siblings.
And as for a 7-week-old puppy needing to gain weight, well that will come in time.

I have been breeding for 5yrs myself and grew up with a real breeder all my life! And if you go on any breeders page that have been doing this for 30+ years will tell you that at 8 weeks is the normal time you can get new pups to new homes. So that whole 12 wk thing is crazy. I keep my pups until they are crate train which is normally 8 wks sometimes 9. And I'm not a backyard breeder! But I feed my dogs and pups Blue Buffalo and homemade boiled chicken and steamed veg. Kind of high but it's worth the wow.

I would try your best to keep him with mom for a couple more weeks before you separate them.
after that, Try feeding him a good high protein high-fat food like Canidae all life stages grain-free CANIDAE Life Stages Lamb Meal & Rice Formula For Dogs

I got a pit bull around the same age the best thing to do is to buy can dog food real meaty and you can give him bread with an egg and buttermilk makes em shiny and fat. As a source to drink I bought mine pedia lite only buy the clear kind the digest it better and your dog's weight will double in no time, I did it and my dog gained 5 pounds in just a few days easy.

A good high-quality puppy food. Avoid foods like "extreme athlete" where the protein is too high. Mix in with his food, whole milk, cottage cheese, and raw eggs. When he got to be six months, transition him to an all raw meat diet with no processed dog foods.

Generally speaking, puppy food is higher in protein and enriched with vitamins, minerals, and fats essential for growth.
