What is a Reasonable Rottweiler dog Price?

Q: My family is looking to get a Rottweiler but puppies price goes anywhere from $220 to 3000.  We want a healthy, nice-looking dog with a good temperament. What is a fair price to pay for Rottweiler?

The price of a baby rottweiler usually depends on if the puppy is considered show or pet quality, and if it's from an AKC certified breeder or backyard breeder, and also if it has hip certification and other clearances. Puppies from backyard breeders and puppy mills often have parasites, viruses, be sickly and inbred. The typical rottweiler puppy price from a good breeder average about $1000.

My friend paid $1,900 for her Rottie. The parents of the dog were both Champions and had all health clearances, including Cardiac, Thyroid, and hips/elbow.

Answer by Mahep
That seems overpriced. Doesn't matter the champions on both sides, breeding is more than just mating 2champions, mating 2champions would not ensure a champion litter. Mating 2 non-champion dogs, but suited well will have more probability of producing show pups than 2 mismatched champions Even the most seasoned breeder would never guarantee a pup as a future champion. You'll find many good breeders offering sound lines n healthy pups anywhere between 1000$ to 1500$

The reason well-bred pet quality is this much is that the breeders do things like OFA on hips and elbows, CERF on eyes, and other required genetic testing. Stud fees for an equally suitable male, plus the cost of titling mean they have to charge the much to even break even.

When you pay a couple of hundred, they are cutting costs somewhere and it is most likely with the very important health testing.

You must understand that there's a fad going on in America for "German" Rottweilers... that's not only referring to the type (blockier heads, deeper chests, etc. etc.) but also yes - they do come from Germany. So most of the top breeders you're going to find are going to be breeding from and using IMPORTS. That's why the pups started getting so expensive several years ago when big breeders started importing. (Photo Credit: JanDix/Pixabay)

Now, just about any backyard breeder can look and see that "hey, these people are selling their Rotties for upwards of $2,500, so that must be what the breed goes for in general." So you have some really poorly bred Rotts out there with these huge price tags that started from the German imports.

In the US, a true imported German Rottweiler will cost between $7000 and 20000. An American puppy with German import parents and champion titles will cost 1000 to 5000. An American Rottie with German bloodlines has a price of 500 to 1000. Most dogs on Craigslist cost about 400 to 250 or less but in many cases, the dog isn't even a true Rottweiler.

according to if you want a rottweiler bred by kennel club breed standards or one not… kennel club breed standard purebred rotties cost more than the ones not bred by kennel club breed standards… I prefer the ones not bred by kennel club breed standards because they are not inbred line bred or selectively bred… in other words, bred relative to relative…so from a show breeder $ 800 to $ 1500 from a byber $ 200 to $ 500 and healthier….

Depends where you are, where I live it's about
Shelter- $ 250- $ 350
Breeder- $ 1000+
Remember all the medical bills and food you will have to pay for the dog.

The cheaper the dog the lower the quality. If you want a healthy dog you will pay more for it.
Don't buy from people breeding their pets. The parents are of lower quality & they are not tested for genetic issues, hips aren't certified, eyes aren't tested, health may be poor.

If you spend the money on a quality dog you won't be going to the Vet all the time. You can spend $500 on a dog & it could have major health issues you will spend thousands on later.

If you are not looking for a breeding dog, your choices are endless. You can often rescue Rotties from shelters, which is usually $200 or less. You can find AKC pups in the paper for $500 or so. Show breeders will sell non-show prospects as "pet quality" on a neuter contract for $1,000 or so.

You can spend anywhere from $ 350, which is what it will cost you to find one at a pound, adopt it an pay to have it fixed, shots, etc, to thousands of dollars for a top show dog,
If your looking for a pet try the local animal shelter, I have had really good luck with dogs from shelters. I have one Rottweiler and One Rott/Shepard mix I got from the local shelter and they are both great dogs.

I have had several expensive Rottweilers, including one $ 1500 Male. (His brother won the Florida show once) While this dog was a magnificent animal, he certainly didn't make as good of a pet as either of my two-pound puppies. Too serious, didn't even like to play.
The big question is do you want a pet or a show dog? If you want a show dog, be ready to pay the price and the time to provide extra care for the dog. Show dogs require top-grade food, must be exercised continuously, and kept in immaculate condition.

In North Carolina they start at about $ 500 and can go up to $ 800 depending on the breeder. You could probably find one at the shelter for a lot cheaper (the SPCA here charges about $ 75-$ 100 for dogs) and you'd also be rescuing it and it will already be fixed, potty-trained (more than likely) AND be up-to-date on its vaccinations.

Costs will vary whether you want pet quality or show quality.
Some breeders will have animals that they've been breeding but are ready to retire, they usually sell those animals at a lower price.
I'm wondering what hassles are so tough going through shelters? We just adopted a dog from a shelter – I had to fill out a form and pay them $ 150, it wasn't that tough.

Answer by andy22
Adoption fees for a typical Rottweiler dog can be as low as $150, or go up to several hundred dollars because some shelters offer health checks, spaying, neutering, and vaccinations in addition to their regular rescue fees. Adopting at a shelter is also a great way to help a dog in trouble.

A few years ago we bought one for $ 50 with no papers. She was the best dog, and she had great conformation. That was a bargain tho and I know you won’t be able to find one now for that. Not sure how much they go for now, just for a per.
