Holly Mills: Could I breed my Maltipoo with a poodle and still call the puppies Maltipoos?
I have found a boy dog to mate with my Maltipoo. But it is a poodle. Will that still make my puppies purebred Maltipoos?

Well I have a Maltipoo and my Maltipoo just had pups from a Toy Poodle, I'm not a breeder but I love animals, and no and someone seeking for a companion some unconditional love, this pups will assist them in those needs, no matter what "name" "breed mix" they want to name them I think they are the cutest little pups ever, I'm not sure how they will come out to look but I'm sure they will be smart and loving like their parents. (peace and love to all)
soooo.... if that poodle is whom you want your Maltipoo to have pups from, I say go for it ! as long as you take care of them and love them or find good homes for them I'm sure they will come out great companions! I mean that's the whole purpose of owning a pet right?

A Maltipoo is not full bred therefore whatever you breed with it will still only be a mutt. A cute mutt maybe, but a mutt nonetheless.

You should not breed your dog, period. Your dog is a mutt, and no responsible breeder anywhere would ever intentionally breed a mutt (there is no such thing as a 'purebred' Maltipoo – that's just a cutesy name unscrupulous breeders slap on mutts so gullible people will buy them). It's either a Maltese or a poodle. Please, do the responsible thing and spay your dog. There is no need to contribute to the already overflowing animal shelters with more mongrels.

Not purebred but still Maltipoos. I am so sick of everyone talking shit about mixed breed dogs. If you don't like them don't get one, but please mind your own business. I have a mixed breed (Yorkie, Bichon) puppy and he is the BEST dog I have ever seen, definitely the smartest. The vet told me that mixed breed dogs are much healthier than purebreds anyways because of problems with overbreeding and inbreeding.

I have to say that not everyone is born rich so keep your full-bred dog. As far as an affordable great looking mutt as you call them you can’t beat one. smart, beautiful and very good companions. I’ve owned a Cockerpoo and have a Mulitipoo now best dogs I’ve ever owned. Get one and let it change your life.

The definition of mutt/mongrel means that the ancestry of that dog is unknown. I’m sure that everyone here knows that a Maltipoo is a mix between a Poodle and a Maltese, which disqualifies the Maltipoo being a mutt/mongrel, as we know the ancestry of the dog. Just because the AKC doesn’t recognize the Maltipoo as a breed does not mean that the Maltipoo is a mutt/mongrel.

Firstly there is no such recognized purebred breed (i.e, recognized by reputable Kennel Clubs) as a "Maltipoo". It is a made-up name for a dog crossed between a Maltese and Poodle (2 recognized breeds).
However if there was such a thing as a Maltipoo and it was bred with a Poodle, following the logic above (i.e. a Maltese and a Poodle = a Maltipoo) then you would have to classify the puppies as Maltipoopoos.

I’m a little confused by the comments concerning this question. In order to be considered worthy of answering the questions asked without sarcasm or hostility, a person must own a purebred dog correct? Even though she posed her question incorrectly, I believe I understood the question. However, I don’t believe I will ask my question as I will get biased opinions without helpful or judgemental responses. Hopefully, I can find the answer to the question I seek elsewhere. I have a few “mutts” along with a purebred German Shepherd, all of whom have been spayed/neutered. I am a responsible pet owner. Life is too short to be angry over the breeding of designer dogs.

Why are there trolls on here anyway talking shit about dog preferences. Their are many homeless and or parentless kids that need adopting but stupid people keep breeding, and my mom always said you can’t fix stupid. You mind your business and we will mind ours. Maltipoos are better than pure bread lineage. Best cutest sweetest smartest healthiest dog I have ever seen. I have adopted 6 dogs that had the worst behaviors and issues and were unpredictable. So designer dog person I am!!!!!!!!

Lol. I totally agree with you Judging Mcjudgerson!! I have a Male Maltipoo, And in case you didn’t know…. Here’s a little tidbit….. maltipoo’s Are hypoallergenic. They don’t tend to bark much, and they are very affectionate and loyal . Mine is quite intelligent. As far as not being recognized by the AKC that is not true. I have a certificate and an AKC number for mine that says otherwise. And he can participate in AKC events. I suggest those of you who think you know everything about a Maltipoo, And the circumstances where they are bred, you might wanna do a little more research, before spewing your advice, and or knowledge. 💋🖤💋

The best dog breeders or best pet owners, or for that matter, the best human beings, are those who show the most patience, love, tolerance, and understanding. If you are not nice to people, you most likely are not nice to animals. If your pet is a status symbol for you then you must be very insecure.

Wow, these replies are so judgy. Believe it or not some people like certain breeds of dogs and just because “shelters are overflowing “ doesn’t mean you MUST adopt those dogs. I have a Maltipoo and a Poodle. The reason we own these dogs is because my daughter and I LOVE animals but we both have asthma and allergies due to pet hair. So. We can only have hypoallergenic dogs and it’s hard to find those dogs in a shelter because you can bet I’ve looked. I did not want to pay an outrageous fee for a dog but if I want this type of dog the sad fact is they aren’t free. I am planning to breed my Maltipoo with our Poodle. So go ahead and preach at me see how far it gets you.
