Angelique: How to convince my parents to let me get a second dog?
I have a mastiff/black lab mix. He LOVES other dogs, and I have plenty of room in my heart for two dogs. My dad has a strict 1 pet only rule. But he said he'll think about it. What do I do? I want my dog to have a little sister! And by the way.. to anybody who says "twice the training" my first dog is already perfectly trained.

Dad's house, dad's rules.
So many kids are not even allowed one dog. If I were you I'd be very grateful for the one I already had.
And don't give me that rubbish about you wanting a "little sister" for your dog. You just want another for yourself.

If you just ask them why then do whatever they say. For ex, "We don't have enough time to take care of two pets". You could volunteer to take care of the second one all by yourself! You should also try to charm them. For example, I wrote a song and one of the lines was "If I say I want a puppy, you push me away. If I sing I want a puppy, maybe your mind will change." Another thing I do is making a list of reasons I should get one.
- Make me spend more time off my laptop since I’ll be the ONLY one taking care of it since it will be MY puppy.
- Will teach me to have the responsibility, since it will be MY puppy ONLY.
- Teach me about routines, since I’ll walk it thrice a day.
- I will train it and take all the responsibility if it eats anything it shouldn’t.
- I will do all/more chores to prove I am responsible, and to give you more of a reason to get it for me.
- I’ll keep my grades up
- I’ve already done well-taking care of my pet rock and with my instruments, so I can take care of things.
- I will take care of my other dog for a while to prove it.
- I’ll house train it
- I’ll play my cello
(sorry that was long)
Lastly, please ignore the bitch that answered first. I want my dog to have a little sister too.

I have the same problem kind of I have a dog and want another. My mom always says the more you ask the farther you are from getting one. If you just stop asking for one and take all the care you can of your dog you might end up with two dogs.

I am having the same problem-recently one of my beautiful horses died, I'm absolutely heartbroken and all the time I feel so horrible- and I just want to feel needed again-i would absolutely love a little puppy to dote on and follow me around and sleep with me- my parents think their too sad to get another pet- but the thing is they hardly even interacted with my horse at all they thought they knew him-they didn't so they say they're devastated over his death when they didn't have anything to do with him!
I'm just finding it so hard to deal with them-i have found a puppy online that I'm in love with and I can afford him on my own without them having to pay anything- and I don't want to have to wait a long time to convince them. Because I'm scared that the puppy will be sold or he'll be a lot bigger :(
Also, ignore that bitch who spoke first.
I already have a dog- and last year our other one died from a car accident- and he's very lonely- I would love "a little brother" for him to play with. really it would be a win-win situation.

You need to ask your parents why they don’t want you to get another dog. Maybe there are some issues about why your mother doesn’t want you to get a new dog. Just ask ur parents.

I have a dog but I want another one too. My parents constantly say no and people say you should be grateful. But think about the dogs. Many dogs live on the street and don't have homes. It may not change the world but it will change the dog's life. Use that strategy of thinking about the dog's benefit. Hope this helps

Instead of being deceitful by just bringing another dog home, how about a good talk. Tell your parents about you being responsible for purchasing, feeding, training, etc. Show them what you mean by wanting a ‘little sister’ for your dog. Do it respectably and they’re more likely to actually hear and understand what you’re saying…also more likely to be okay with a second dog.
Answer by Know it
look around town for someone giving away free dogs and just take it home. dad will have a much harder time saying no when there is already a second one in the house.

I am going through the same issue myself how to convince my parents to get me a dog.

I already have a dog, she’s young and cute, but I want another one because she needs a friend. My dog doesn’t really get along with other dogs, and my sister and I would be the happiest ever. (though we are already really happy.) Should I bargain with my mom that if I get a ninety through hundred on my math test ( I’ve never gotten a hundred) that we will get another dog for my family and my dog?

i have a guinea pig and my mom has a dog, and my moms boyfriends dog died yesterday, my moms dog is mean, and my guinea pig doesnt play or snuggle, i just want someone to love me, but my parents said NO what should i do? btw im 11.

Don’t tell your parents that you want someone to love you. Tell them that you want to help animals. Take your mother to the shelter. If she likes some dog ask her to take the dog home.

Ask your mom’s boyfriend if he wants another dog, and you and him may then have a much easier time persuading her. I’m 12 and hoping my almost two year old dog can have a playmate; also, (if you’re on good terms) you could just get a dog at your dad’s house instead. If you really want one at your mom’s house though, you could research which breed you want and make sure it’s compatible with your mom’s current dog – let them met the dog beforehand. Show you are capable around the house by doing extra chores and looking after you guinea pig. Hope this helps a little, Ellie.

I have only one dog, and I kind of want another. I love dogs. I love my dog. But my parents are super strict about that. They say: “if you want another dog, we’ll give Pumpkin (my dog) to your aunt”. My aunt who is in Xi’an.
Ellie says
Don’t kind of want another dog – know you want it. Make sure you know who would look after it – food, walks, baths etc.

I am having trouble trying to persuade my parents to too, i have a 12 year old black lab who is my best friend and my parents keep saying it’s not fair on her to bring a puppy into her life and will stress her out, but i will be the one looking after the dog and it will always have me too play with. Also i will still give my senior dog love and attention too

I am having the same problem but with just my dad he says there’s no way he will let us have another dog. My mom on the other hand will only get one if my dad says yes. Me and my sister created a game plan for tomorrow we’re gonna do all our chores and school works and also do extra work in the yard my dad would have to do over the weekend. We are also gonna make him his favorite dinner put on a show to show him all the tricks Mabel ( our current dog) knows. finally we are gonna serve him his favorite childhood cake and present a slideshow of reasons to get a second puppy. My dads pretty tough to convince so i doubt it will work but you never know untill you try.

I have a yellow lab and I used to have a Papillon, but he recently died. My yellow lab is really lonely and she is actually getting lazier, the longer we wait. I actually myself am going to ask for a second dog. I will pay for the dog, when getting it. And I also will take care of it. The yellow lab she is used to living in a house with a small dog, so I have decided to either get a Toy Fox Terrier or a Miniature Pinscher, Good luck!
