How do you Train a Whippet Dog to Hunt?

Discord: How do you train a whippet to hunt?
It's not illegal to hunt rats or rabbits on your own land, or with the permission of the owner of the land.

The whippet will hunt, they come equipped with that programming on board already. In fact, they hunt without input from the handler.
Your whippet will need a teammate who can go after the rabbits when they go to ground, terriers, and dachshunds are the top candidates. My preference would be a West Highland Terrier; I've always enjoyed working with the hound/terrier combo.

You are right you can hunt on your own land. The dog will be trained already its a build-in instinct. If your going rabbiting get two fetters and nets to cover some hole so your dogs has some and a spade for the rest.

Remember don't hunt at the breeding time or they will be none left for next year plus if you get a ferret it'll stay down the warren and eat the baby rabbits will take weeks to get him back. Also if getting a ferret to get a tracking collar.

Dog won't hurt the fetters if they spend time together with you and will start to work as a team.

I grew up on a farm did this from the age of 3 to this day when I go home. I had three dogs lurcher, whippet, and a jr and 5 ferrets. They all got along and hunted together. I wouldn't go after rats with anything other than a jack Russell, there nasty things and I hate the things.

City people have no idea what it's really like in the country. I have seen newborn lambs killed by crows. Fox's waiting for puppies to go out to play so it can kill them.

Waiting for the thumbs down.

The Hunting Act 2004 – is a BRITISH law that states "hunting with dogs (particularly fox hunting, but also the hunting of deer, hares, and mink and organized hare coursing) in England and Wales is outlawed"

"The Hunting Act bans activities that Parliament believed to be cruel sports and permitted activities that are believed to be necessary for land managers. Parliament accepted the view that where rats and rabbits were pests, hunting them was legitimate.[37] MPs did not believe that there was any necessity to use dogs to hunt mice[38] and believed that hare hunting was cruel, which is why these activities were not exempted from the act."
