Does a female labrador get aggressive before heat?

Question by lab boy: does a female labrador get more aggressive before she goes in heat?
my new one year old labrador female is a little aggressive with my one and for month old chocolate male, is it because he is the alpha male. or could it be that she thinks he’s being aggressive towards her. could she just be frightened cause he’s still a little hyper? what do yall think

Quick answer:

Answer by Lola
probably because she is in heat, or she is fighting him for dominance in the pack.

If it's a new dog, they probably just need to get used to each other and establish their place with one another. When breeding, sometimes females will be aggressive, but seeing as she's not in heat yet and he's just playing…i doubt it has to do with that. If they're not pedigree dogs that you plan on breeding in the future (at LEAST 2 years old), hopefully the male is fixed, and you plan to get the female fixed very soon…otherwise keep them supervised or separated when she's in heat.

So he's 15 months old and she's 12 months old and they are both intact?

Lovely. She is probably going to go into heat soon and he is starting to bother her.

Get her fixed NOW—and him too if he's not already fixed or you're going to wind up with puppies and you don't want that.

Get your dogs fixed! It'll take all the hormones out of the picture and it'll help with the aggressiveness. The puppy is starting to figure out he is a man and then it's not good to have them intact. The female will get mad and that could lead to some major problems. They will both want to be the one in charge and it could lead to fights. The best thing you could do for your dogs is to get them fixed!

When female dogs are going into heat, they will act more defensive/aggressive towards male dogs who try to show them more attention than they want. This is normal behaviour until they're ready to mate, and then she's stand and lift her tail for him. If you don't want them to mate, and you shouldn't since she'd only a year old, then pay attention and keep them separated.
