Pink Robot: Best feeding for a borzoi puppy?
I have a 4 months old female borzoi puppy. My breeder suggested me to feed her with Pedigree puppy the first 4 months and then change it for adult recipe because the puppy recipe has more calcium than the adult recipe and the excess of this mineral is counterproductive for her growth because she’s a giant breed. I know Pedigree isn’t a good food and I changed it for the Hill’s Science Diet large breed puppy recipe. I checked the % of calcium in each food… for pedigree puppy is 1.1%, for S.D. large breed puppy is 0.7%, for S.D. large breed adult is 0.5% but I cant find the % for the Pedigree adult recipe. I ask my vet and he told me to give her the S.D. large breed puppy recipe for a whole year. Is this the best way for feeding my borzoi?
Thanks for your answers, but sadly in my country do not sell Canidae or Wellness…

Those are both terrible foods!
Let me let you in on a secret, Vets recommend Science Diet because they get paid for doing so.
Avoid: Pedigree, Beneful, Nutro, Alpo, Ol Roy, Kibbles N Bits, Bil-Jac,
Mighty Dog, Purina (including ProPlan),Ceser, Iams, Eukanuba, Science Diet, Royal Canin, Eagle Pack (not to be confused with Eagle Pack Holistic)
and of course all grocery store brands of dog food!

I would switch to Canidae or Wellness.

    Hi there–

I have a 6 month old male borzoi and when he came to me he was on Purina Puppy Chow. I was concerned at this and decided to see how he would do on it. Well, His behavior was great though, happy and loving with lots of puppy energy and not slumped down and tired, but his coat wasn't coming in properly so I decided to change his food to Blue Buffalo. It's expensive but it's worth it! He loves it and is doing much, much better on it. His fur is coming is beautifully and it's nice and shiny and very soft.

I prefer to keep a dog on puppy food until he/she is a year old. Adult food just doesn't have nutrients that puppy food does for growing puppies, but that is my choice. Especially borzoi puppies. They have a LOT of growing to do and adult food just doesn't have the nutrients to help this process along. Hope you get resolve this!

You really should read the ingredients on the bag, Science diet is not very good food either. With a very large breed like a Borzoi, I would give her Canidae All Life Stage. She will grow at a steady, natural rate. I have fed my Afghans Canidae ALS for years now, pups, adults, seniors, thay do great on it.
Also, check out my online magazine
There are links on there for the Borzoi Club of America, good rearing tips and lots of info.

I personally would not feed either of those to a growing Borzoi… I do however know ALOT of sighthound people that vow by purina pro plan performance all stages… We feed orijen but you really need to watch protein levels with your growing hound…. contact this breeder

she loves this breed and will not lead you in the wrong direction…

If you're not going to listen to the breeder, who is a very knowledgeable person in this situation, after all, they know the breed, listen to the vet. If the product is designed for large breed puppy, it'll be designed to cater to the calcium needs of a large breed like yours.
