Russian Dog Wins Reserve Best in Show at Crufts

Rico the Dog

Rico, a dog from Moscow, became the first ever Russian dog who won Reserve Best in Show at Crufts, the most prestigious competition in the dog world. The Scottish Terrier Rico, owned by Valentina Popova and officially known as Filisite Brash Celebration, is a lively two-year-old dog from Filisite Brash kennel.

The kennel, also owned by Valentina Popova (not the Olympic weightlifter of the same name), is probably the best in Russia for Scottish Terriers. Several of their dogs bear the titles of World and Junior World Winners, as well as European Champions.

Crufts Winner

At Crufts 2010 Rico lost out to Yogi, the Hungarian Viszla, who finally became the Crufts winner. Yogi beat off competition from six other dogs in the culmination of the four-day dog show at Birmingham's National Exhibition Centre, with more than 22,000 participants. Thousands of people had packed the arena to cheer on the finalists. The seven-year-old Yogi’s owners are Naomi Cragg and Kathryn Armstrong from Carlisle, Cumbria.

Crufts, the world’s largest annual dog show, consists of several competitions occurring at the same time. After the best dogs of each breed have been chosen, they compete in their Groups (Toys, Gundogs, Utility, Hounds, Working, Pastoral, and Terriers). The seven Best in Group winners then compete to find the Best in Show and Reserve Best in Show.
