: Best dog for an autistic child?
Hello everyone, I hope everyone is having a blessed day and week! Just letting you know, i'm 23, some people says it's my moms decision on getting a breed of dog, but it's only both of us, because she's a single mom so no men in the house. Ok I have a question. I have a younger brother who is turning 14 soon, mom and I are not get a dog soon or for his birthday yet, but we really want to get one soon. My brother Ali he has Autism, OCD, hyper and very friendly (sometimes too friendly), he loves hugging people, we have already taught him not to speak to strangers, and not to hug animals to tight, and such. He's on the high spectrum of Autism, so he's in 6th grade doing well and such. But one problem is that when he stims, I have no problem with his stimming, but when he does it he would does high pitch screaming out of no where. and he would run up and down, and that would not really scare people, but surprise people who don't know about Autism you know? And also, he still have tantrums from time to time, and it can be bad. So I have researched that golden/lab retrievers are mostly great with kids like him. And I've read about service and therapy dogs, but my brother really doesn't need service and therapy dogs cause he doesn't need a lot of help. And retrievers are great, but to soft/too friendly, you know? So I need a dog that's protective/ watchdog, at the same time a little friendly, and not get scared by him, cause of his actions. I'm afraid that the dog will attack if it feels harmed by him, or crack under pressure with all of the constant hugging he always give, and I can really imagine that happening. So I'm thinking about a Kuvasz breed, cause online they say that they are gentle and patient, and really great watch dogs. So let me know what you guys think??? and other type of breeds is greatly appreciated. oh and also, we don't want to get two dogs, really expensive with one left alone two. (some people suggest to get two, one friendly, the other mean guard dog.) I really need help.

I think you should get an older service dog that will be patient with your brother.
