IRISH WOLFHOUND

Height: 28-35 inches (71-90 cm.)
Weight: 90-150 pounds (40-69 kg.)

The Irish Wolfhound can reach up to 7 feet tall when standing on his hind legs. The Irish Wolfhound’s name originates from is use as a wolf hunter, and not from its appearance. They are stonger than the Scottish Deerhound, but the Deerhound is faster.

SCOTTISH DEERHOUND

Height: 28-32 inches (71-81 cm)
Weight: 75-110 pounds (34-50 kg)

They were used as deer hunting dogs for Scottish tribes in the Middle Ages.

Woflhounds are the tallest breed. So they’re actually a little bigger but both breeds are very tall. They were made to hunt. WOLFhound, DEERhound… you can see the connection. So if you want one of those, make sure you have a big backyard or take big walks everyday because they NEED to spend a lot of energy. That’s what they are made for. Both have good temperament, very loyal and intelligent. I wouldn’t say one is stronger/faster than the other. Wolfhounds depending on male or female can go from 75 to 82 cm to the shoulder.. the weight is difficult to say. Deerhounds are smaller maybe 70 to 76 depending if it’s male or female. Females are generally smaller. They are supposed to be slender and tall.

They’re different breeds. Deerhounds are the smaller of the two in height and weight, although still very tall. The Irish Wolfhound is the tallest dog breed.
And the strength and speed would depend on the individual dog, not the whole breed.
How can you not tell the differences? They look pretty different to me.

  1. Holly an “G” I agree on eveey thing speed doesn’t matter by breed or size but tje smallest can b the dastest but fact iz Wolf Hound pound for pound is the biggest… fact biggest dog ever recorded is the Great Dane at over 250 plus pounds but biggest or heaviest dog is the Mastiff it jus depends

  2. Scottish deerhounds are smarter and live a bit longer.

  3. Deerhounds are slimmer and more lean but smaller than the Wolfhound. You can also find them on lure courses.
