Heather ~ Not a Perfect Mom ~: Anyone else use Nutro?
I have been using Nutro Natures Choice for about 3 - 4 months now. Lillie has chronic diarrhea and this is the only dog food (besides home made) that helps her. Then I read this and I am concerned.
How reliable do you think this is? I am kinda worried and was wondering what those that use Nutro think.
I am also wondering aout the vadility of ths site. I have also checked Snopes, but thier was no current info. Just stuff about last years recall. I have decided for now I am going to be making her food.
Last time I went to get the food, the same signs were up...Stupid me...I bought TWO 40 lb bags, so I have over 1 whole bag left.

I don't use nutro and I know you wanted to hear from someone who does but I have to say that the only way to know what's in your dogs food is to make it yourself. Same with our food.

You would have to decide if that web site is valid. I far as could tell, the Nutro page is just filled with people's comments. And they could all be true and accurate, or not. I'm always suspicious of a web site that is basically just a bulletin board.
However, to be on the safe side, are there other foods you could try?

I fed my dog Nutro Nat. Choice at one time, and she did ok--but there are better foods. The complaints about Nutro have been circulating for some time, but there has not been any official recall. If you're concerned, research some other brands & try a gradual switch of the foods.

Nutro is kind of in the middle between high quality and low quality foods in my opinion.
It looks as though Nutro has changed sinced I used it last several, several years ago. There are enough complaints about more than just some diarrhea issues that I wouldn't feel comfortable about it.
Switch to a higher quality food, Innova, Canidae, Wellnes, Chicken Soup to name a few. If you have any more questions about dog food feel free to email me. I don't really have the room here to go into a lot of detail.

This was on here about a month or a few weeks ago about this. My puppy is 8 mos old and I have him on 50% Canidae All Life Stages and 50% Nutro Max puppy. He seems to be doing very well on the mix. I want to have him on all Canidae but it gives him loose stools when I do so I use the mix. I have used the Nutro Natural Choice and it does NOT agree with my dog so I stopped using it after a few days. I really don't know what to tell you but my local pet stores have signs out saying that the shortage of commodities used in Nutro is the reason that they are out of stock now. Not that this matters, but they are changing their labels also. I will keep my dog on the mix that works for us but these days ya really dont' know what to trust. I want to keep him on kibble and it took me a long time to find the combo that works for us so until I come up with something better, I'm sticking with this. I do understand your concerns though. I'd try the Canidae, it is great food and was NOT involved in the recalls. http://www.canidae.com

My 3 yr old Aussie has been fed Nutro exclusively. The breeder was feeding him this when I got him as a puppy, and I just continued. (The breeder has since changed the food he recommends, on his website).
I was a little concerned when the big recall happened a while back, but since my dog was not having any issues, I didn't change anything.
He is a happy and healthy dog (I take him to the vet for regular visits).
The only time my dog gets diarrhea is whenever he manages to find/get people food. I found out the hard way too, that when he would eat any rawhide/pigears/treats of that sort, that too causes him to get diarrhea. So now, the only treats he gets is an occasional "greenie" type treat, a nylabone, or hard biscuit type treats.
I hope everything works out for you and your pup. I can't hurt to swap the food you are feeding him to see if that is the culprit. Just remember to do it slowly- 1/4 new, 3/4 nutro for a few days . . then 1/2 and 1/2 . . and so on till its all the new stuff.

You have to remember that there will inevitably be at least one complaint about every product on the market.
I've used Nutro's Natural Choice for 5+ years, and have had no problems with it. However, I am considering switching to Canidae because it would be less expensive in the long run.
