Question by bee: How many times a day should you feed a 7 month old chihuahua puppy?
Twice a day? Once a day? At what age should you switch to once a day? Also, at what age, if ever, do chihuahua or small breeds out grow the high risk of hypoglycemia? Could you please make recommendations on times of day (hour) to feed if feeding twice per day or once per day. Our chihuahua is on Royal Canin. I am currently giving her 1/2C 2xday. She weighs about 5-6 lbs. Thank you.

When they are a puppy you should leave food out for them all day long. They are growing they need to eat as much as they want until they feel full. Once they reach the age of about 8 months ask your vet what they recommend. Good luck to you and your pupRead all the answers in the comments.

we do this with all 4 of our dogs
give them soft food once a day and hard food out all day
they'll eat when there hungry
For a Puppy that weighs 2-10 lbs they should be fed twice a day in the amount of 1/2-1 1/2 cups twice a day. :)
And you should switch your puppy from puppy food the Adult food at A year Old and start feeding it 3/4—1 cup a day. :)
And small breeds usually outgrow the high risk of hypoglycemia by the time they are a year old. :)
And i would switch your puppy to a more High Quality Dog food the dog food you are feeding has corn, and Wheat whitch is not good for dogs and for puppies at that. I would switch your puppy to "Canidae All life stages". I have a 13 month old beagle terrier with some chi in him and I was told by the vet to feed him AT LEAST twice a day because of the hypoglycemia problem even though he is 14-15 lbs. I feed him Wellness three times daily …about 7 am then at 1 pm then at 7 pm with a light snack around 9 pm. He has water available all day til about 10 pm and he gets at least a mile a day walk in and tons of socialization with the neighbors kids and dogs just about every day.
I would recommend that a chihuahua be kept on a three times daily feeding schedule at 7 then 1 then 7 again if possible but at least twice a day at 7 and 7 with a snack in between forever. I'd cut it down to a quarter to third of a cup 3 times daily to preven the sugar problem.
Puppies should be fed three times a day and dogs (9-12 month or 1 year old) should be fed twice a day. Many years ago they used to feed dogs only once a day but now feed less each time but feed twice a day.
I feed my dog's at 7 AM and 7 PM and they get a cookie in between.

Our puppy is a 4 month old Miniature Schnauzer. She weighs 9 lbs. We feed her a 1/2 cup in morning, 1/2 cup at noon & 1/2 cup at night. We feed her Canidae.
