cynthia lee: Are Yorkies considered hypoallergenic?
I've heard that they are, but I also know that poodles and maltese are hypoallergenic too. When my friend got a maltese poo I wasn't allergic to him at first, but when I visited on Sunday I started getting hives. Mabey it's the food that the puppy eats? I'm not sure, but I don't want to be allergic to my Yorkie so is there a shampoo or something that can lower the allergy levels, if I am allergic to Yorkies?

Your allergist should be able to tell you if it is dander or saliva from dogs you are allergic to.
No dog is truly hypoallergenic. My friend has a poodle that hardly sets off her allergies at all, yet that dogs littermate brother makes her sneeze like mad. It all depends upon the individual dog and you.
You may be allergic to your yorkie, you may not. We can't tell you as all allergies are different.
Quality food can make a dog shed less, so technically it could make a difference.
Yorkies don't have a thick undercoat like many breeds so hey can affect allergies less. Keep him well groomed for your best chances of not reacting. Washing too often can actually be bad for his coat.

wtf is a maltese poo? a damn MUTT?
NO DOGS are hypoallergenic...HUMANS are allergic to dander...ALL DOGS HAVE SKIN...SO YOU CAN BE ALLERGIC TO ANY BREED

Sorry to be the one to tell you. But there is NO SUCH thing as a HYPO-ALLERGENIC DOG. All dogs have allergy causing agents, top 3 being dander, hair/fur, and saliva.
My advice is, if you are allergic to dome dogs, go to some place where they have Yorkshire Terriers and play with them and interact with them.
If you start showing problems then you know it won't work for you.
Nothing will lower the allergens.

Less than honest breeders often claim a breed is hypoallergenic. No breed is hypoallergenic and if you have serious allergies, you may be allergic to any breed or any given dog. No there is no shampoo that will actually do any good. Again, there are all sorts of products that dishonest people will sell to the gullible.
Go to an allergist and get tested before you get the puppy. They will be able to tell you how serious your dog allergy is and whether it can be corrected with shots or pills. Please don't buy the puppy and then have to take it back. It will be hard on both of you.
Plus, a reputable breeder of toy breeds will not release the puppy to a new home before 12 weeks.

There are no hypoallergenic dogs. A person allergic to dogs is allergic to proteins produced by the dog. These proteins are found in saliva, urine, and dander. It doesn't matter what kind of fur the dog has, an allergy is an allergy. What does make a difference is how well groomed the dog is, and how much the dog's environment (the home he lives in) is cleaned. I am allergic to dogs and own four. Keeping the dogs well groomed, keeping them out of the bedroom, off the furniture, and keeping the home well vacuumed and mopped makes all the difference.
Is there a shampoo? Eh...Allergroom shampoo does a great job of keeping dander down (especially if used in conjunction with the Humilac humectant spray), but a dog allergy is a dog allergy. You may react more to some dogs than others (they are all individuals), but a dog is a dog, and allergy is allergy. If you want to deal with your dog allergy, you should see an allergist for immunotherapy.
